Reading over the Summer
All students who are entering grades 7-8 are asked to read three books of their choice over the summer in preparation for their Language Arts class. Keep track of your reading on this document. Students will be required to write about one of the books they read over the summer during the first week of school.
Wondering What to Read?
Remember, reading is not just for school, it is for life, it is for fun, it is to allow you to have a richer vocabulary, build your knowledge, become a better writer. No single activity helps you more overall in school than reading. Here are some great places to look for suggestions:
Reading On-line
You can also read online. Go to the library webpage anytime for access to popular novels in eBooks, Tumblebooks for picture books and graphic novels, or WorldBook Online for non-fiction.
Twenty Minutes a Day!
Remember, reading in English just twenty minutes a day will keep you ready to begin school in August. Build your vocabulary and comprehension; keep reading over the summer!

Digital Reading from the Academia Cotopaxi Library
Library eBooks for novels
- Navigate to our Destiny Catalog library of books
- Login with your username (this is your email prefix, like “23smithm”) and password (this is currently “cotopaxi2019”)
- Click on Library Search on the left hand side of the screen
- Set “Material Type” to Electronic Book (eBook)
- Leave the search box blank and click enter. Choose a book! You can read online, or click Checkout to have it downloaded to your device for 2 weeks.
Picture Books and Graphic Novels
Tumblebooks is a good source for picture books and graphic novels.
- Go to Tumblebooklibrary.com
- Login with our username: cotopaxi, and password: cougars
- Choose books from the tabs or search box
Non-Fiction Selections
